13th/14th and 20th/21st March 2009 - Disney's Alice in Wonderland, O.L.S.S

16th/17th April 2009 - Musical-tastic 2, Charter Theatre, Preston - A showcase of the talent and diversity of dancing and musical styles available in the classes at the Academy, from Ballet to Jazz and Musical Theatre to Tap.

C.A.O.S presented Leonard Bernstein's 'West Side Story'. Nightly from 7.30pm at Lowther Pavilion.

Copacabana – now I know how – wonderfully!!

There was some great young talent on the stage and I loved the set.

Chris - NODA representative (Region 2)

31st October 2009 - Annual NODA Awards Evening - A celebration of all the shows in region 2 this year. Our 2 shows: Alice in Wonderland and Copacabana were nominated as follows:

Alice in Wonderland - Best Supporting Actor: Reece Washington (Mad Hatter), Most Entertaining Performance: Grace Robson/Morgan Meechan (Tweedles), Best Director: Rachel Kirkham, Best Youth Production.

Copacabana - Best Choreographer.

We won two awards - Best Supporting Actor for Alice in Wonderland and Best Choreographer for Copacabana.

20th-22nd November 2009 - Disney's Cinderella, O.L.S.S

Just a brief note to thank you for inviting me to see Cinderella – it is simply wonderful to see all those young people so enjoying themselves – not to mention the pleasure they bring to the audience.

I loved the Fairy Godmother – she was just SO sparkly.

My biggest thank you must go the army of backstage people who get these youngsters on the stage – you have my absolute respect for a job well done – as well and bringing such pleasure to all - cast and audience alike.

NODA representative (Region 2)

27th November 2009 - 2nd Academy Awards Evening - A celebration of all students who took exams in January and July 2009, taken part in dance/drama festivals and shows. The evening saw out ballroom and street crew formation teams take to the floor and students who participated in festivals perform.

5th December 2009

The children from our Saturday Musical Theatre group present 'Bugsy Malone' 7.30pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Social Centre, St Albans Road. Tickets £6 Adults and £4 Concessions.

2008

7th/8th March 08 - Musical-tastic, Paradise Rooms, Blackpool Pleasure Beach - A variety show of all the talent the Academy has to offer, from Ballet to Tap and Street Jazz to Musical Theatre.

8th/9th May 08 - Spring Spectacular, O.L.S.S

18th - 20th September 08 - Copacabana, Lowther Pavilion, Lytham - C.A.O.S. (Clifton Amateur Operatic Society) produced and performed Barry Manilow's Copacabana at Lowther Pavilion in Lytham. Click to view the NODA website.

8th November 2008 - 1st Academy Awards Evening- A celebration for all students who had passed exams.The evening had demonstrations from our Ballroom and Latin American dance teachers Gary Woods and Susie Claridge, cabaret and supper.

18th/19th December 2008 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, O.L.S.S

Exams

Throughout the year students have taken exams in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Ballroom, Latin and L.A.M.D.A. In our January & July 2009 exams we had an 100% pass rate, with a lot of our pupils gaining A's or B's. Next exams December 2009.

Summer School

During school holidays we hold activity weeks. These are performing arts related and usually themed to a particular show. The cost of the full week is £90 - please speak to Reception for more information on this.

Festivals

Many of the students participate in local festivals. The Academy dance teachers will do private classes to assist with choreography, music and song choice. We have had successful entrants in all the festivals that they entered in the first year.

C.A.O.S (Clifton Amateur Operatic Society)

We have a NODA affiliated adult amateur operatic and dramatic society formed in April 2008. The society is open to anyone aged 14 + male or female.

Meet the Staff

Teacher Biographies

Sarah Appleton - I began dance lessons when I was four and began my training as a dance teacher at the age of sixteen. I have recently passed my Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI) and Certificate in Dance Education (CDE) in Tap and Modern having successfully completed ISTD Advanced 2 in Tap and ISTD Advanced 1 in Modern. In addition to this I have completed the ISTD Bronze, Silver and Gold Jazz Awards. I am very passionate about Musical Theatre having being associated with a number of Operatic Societies on the Fylde Coast taking leading roles in 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', 'Kiss Me Kate', 'Calamity Jane', 'Summer Holiday' and most recently 'West Side Story' with the Clifton Amateur Operatic Society, playing Maria. In my spare time I choreograph for Our Lady's Youth Theatre.

Becky Bagherian - I first began dancing at the age of seven where I attended Footsteps Theatre School in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I then later progressed to become a full-time student on the Professional Dancers and Teachers of Dance course at Preston College for 3 years. I gained numerous performing and teaching qualifications including ISTD Advanced 2 Tap, Modern and National, ISTD Advanced 1 Ballet, CDE Modern and National, FDI Tap and BTEC Musical Theatre. I was also awarded the Preston College Choreographic award of 2007. I love to perform and have spent times overseas dancing in Egypt, Germany and Slovenia. I love to teach and choreograph, getting this job at Clifton Academy has been great as I am hoping to start my own hip hop crew.

Cafe

The Academy Café offers a wide range of beverages and light snacks in a pleasant area where families and students can relax. Cafe opening hours are: 4pm - 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturday. Our cafe staff are: Debra, Beth, Jim, Rebecca and Sally.

Children's Parties

Children's Parties are available to be booked on a Saturday afternoon for a 2 hour period (2pm - 4pm.) We ask that there is a minimum of 8 children to attend the party from £8.50 a child. This includes an activity - Ballet, Street Jazz, Modern, Music/Singing or a Theme of their choice for example High School Musical or Disney. Followed by a party meal and games with a choice of cold food - sandwiches, crisps, salad, iced buns and drinks or hot food (additional £1.00 a child) -pizza fish fingers, chicken nuggets, chips, iced buns and drinks. Alternative menus can be arranged on request.

Party bags are available at an additional cost of £2.50 per child. A Birthday Cake can also be arranged on request. For more information or to pick up a party booking form please contact us.
